How Involved Can You Be During the Construction Process?
Building your own home is one of the most exciting journeys you’ll ever take, and it’s only natural to want to be involved every step of the way. At Aveling Homes, we believe your home should reflect your vision, so we welcome your involvement from the initial design phase right through to handover. But how much involvement is realistic (or even allowed) once the build is underway?
Your Role During Construction: What to Expect
While you won’t be swinging a hammer or laying bricks, your voice still matters throughout the process. Here’s where and how you can play a hands-on role:
Design and Selections Stage – Your Time to Shine
Before construction begins, you’ll work closely with our team to choose your home design, floorplan options, and inclusions. This is where you’ll make decisions on:
- Room layouts and orientation
- Kitchen and bathroom fixtures
- Flooring, tiles, and paint colours
- Lighting and electrical layouts
We’ll guide you through every decision with expert advice and samples to make the process less hassle.
Pre-Construction Approvals and Sign-Offs
We’ll keep you in the loop while preparing building approvals, permits, and documentation. You’ll have the opportunity to review everything before we break ground. It’s also a great time to ask questions and double-check details.
During Construction – Informed, Not On Site
Once construction starts, you won’t be on the tools, but you won’t be left in the dark either. At Aveling Homes, we provide:
- Regular updates on progress, including key milestones like slab pour, frame completion, and lock-up stage
- Site meetings are scheduled at points so you can see how your home is coming together
- Photos and communication via your dedicated point of contact
We encourage you to ask questions at any stage. Just keep in mind that for safety and insurance reasons, unsupervised site visits aren’t allowed.
Making Changes During the Build
Small changes might be possible early on, but major alterations after construction has started can lead to delays or extra costs. That’s why we encourage you to finalise selections and plans before the site starts. If you do need to make a change, we’ll let you know what’s involved and how it will affect your timeline or budget.
Quality Assurance and Inspections
As we reach the final stages of the build, you’ll be invited for a practical completion inspection. This is your chance to walk through the home, check everything over, and flag anything you’d like adjusted before handover.
Handover and Beyond
When your home is ready, we’ll walk you through the handover process, show you how everything works, and provide a folder with warranties, certifications, and manuals. We’ll also check in with you after you’ve moved in to make sure everything’s running smoothly.
How Aveling Homes Keeps You in the Loop
We know communication is key, especially during a build. That’s why we:
- Assign a dedicated Client Liaison to keep you updated
- Provide clear build timelines and expected stage completions
- Offer support and transparency from start to finish
So, how involved can you be during construction? The answer is: as much as you like, within reason and safety guidelines. With Aveling Homes, you’ll never be left wondering what’s happening or when. We make it easy for you to feel part of the process, without the stress.
